SINNOH STARTER POKEMON

The three Sinnoh starters are all very different so here is a guide that can help you best choose which is right for you to start your adventure with.

Turtwig

Turtwig though slow, has good attacking power and learns attacks from many different types which increases the Pokemon it has power over. It is strong against the first gym which makes it a good choice once it learns some Grass attacks.

Ability: Overgrow - Grass type attacks increase in power to X1.5 when HP drops below 1/3.
Egg Group: Monster/Grass
Strong Against: Water, Ground, Rock
Weak Against: Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug
Rival Starter: Chimchar
Type Match-Up Against First Gym: Super Effective

Chimchar

Chimchar is the fastest of the starters though it will have difficulty against the first gym, the second gym is Grass type which gives you the advantage to make up for things. Try to evolve Chimchar to Monferno to become half Fighting type and you should be okay.

Ability: Blaze - Fire type attacks increase in power to X1.5 when HP drops below 1/3.
Egg Group: Field/Human-Like
Strong Against: Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel
Weak Against: Water, Ground, Rock
Rival Starter: Piplup
Type Match-Up Against First Gym: Weak

Piplup

Piplup has great Special Attack and eventually will develop strong defense as it becomes half Steel type as an Empoleon. Steel/Water gives Empoleon resistance to 12 different types but introduces mroe weaknesses like Ground. Piplup's Water attacks will make the first gym a breeze though problems will soon arise at the second Grass gym.

Ability: Torrent - Water type attacks increase in power to X1.5 when HP drops below 1/3.
Egg Group: Water 1/Field
Strong Against: Fire, Ground, Rock
Weak Against: Electric, Grass
Rival Starter: Turtwig
Type Match-Up Against First Gym: Super Effective
